The testimony of a changed life is an amazing witness to the power of the gospel. On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the underlying foundation that makes possible this transformation – Jesus’ resurrection and victory over sin’s power and penalty for …
As we continue in chapter 9 this morning, we see that the author continues to pile up the ways in which the New Covenant is the better covenant. May our hearts stir with greater and greater praise of our Savior …
For many, thinking about or creating a will is something they put off doing because it reminds them of just how fragile life really is. This isn’t the case for our author. In fact, he uses the analogy of a will as he further develops his argument regarding the superiority of Jesus. May God give us wisdom as we consider the relevance to our lives today.
As believers living on this side of the cross, we far too often take for granted the way in which Jesus’ coming has radically changed how God’s people worship Him. Previously, the temple and sacrificial system took place at a place. But with the coming of Jesus, our worship has been reoriented to focus on a person. But in order for that to happen, God has also brought about another radical change. May God be glorified as we examine that change today during our time in the Word.
This morning we take a moment to review the magnificent truths our author has highlighted thus far through chapters 1 -7. As we do we celebrate the glory of Christ and consider how His superior priesthood affects our worship today. May our eyes and ears be open to celebrate all we see about Jesus.
The cost of following Jesus is something everyone must wrestle with. For the believers the author was writing to, the struggle was whether to return to the works of Judaism rather than persevering in faith that Jesus is enough. Even today, we struggle with whether or not Jesus is enough. This is especially difficult when life gets hard and other idols pull at us to find relief from the burden of life, lived in the midst of sin and its consequences.
We continue this morning with the argument the author is making about the superior priesthood to which Jesus belongs. For the Jews, the priesthood of Aaron, transferred down the line to those in the family of Levi was all Israel knew. Here we see the superior position Jesus holds and the hope we gain from Him.
This morning our author returns to the topic of Melchizedek. His purpose in doing so is to build the case that not only is he greater than the priests of Aaron but he points us to the One who fulfills what he only displays in part. May we worship the glory and greatness of Jesus.
