Children

“To make disciples of Jesus Christ for God’s Glory.”

At ABC we take our charge of making disciples with great importance, beginning with the children in our care.  Our children’s ministry seeks to teach and train children about their need to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

The tools we use to accomplish this goal are Sunday school, Children’s Church and AWANA.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Every Sunday morning we have age segregated classes for our children to learn more about God through the study of His Word, the Bible.  Dedicated, loving teachers are eager to disciple and encourage each child in his or her spiritual growth.

We are currently using the Answers In Genesis Sunday school curriculum – Answers Bible Curriculum (ABC).  Answers Bible Curriculum is a full-featured, chronological, 3-year Sunday school program. Each group covers Genesis through Revelation and learns the same material—but at different levels of depth—empowering exciting and easy discussion for the entire family!

Answers Bible Curriculum was developed to present the gospel, beginning in Genesis, to all generations; to train believers to know, obey, and defend God’s Word; and to encourage believers to become conformed to the image of Christ.  Principles integrated throughout the lessons include:

  • We can trust all of God’s Word beginning in Genesis
  • The Bible presents true history
  • God’s plan of redemption is woven throughout Scripture
  • God’s attributes are displayed throughout the Bible
  • We must carefully and accurately interpret the Bible
  • We must be ready to give an answer for what we believe
  • We are to live in light of what the Bible teaches

Answers Bible Curriculum provides answers to the issues that confront today’s culture through the media, school, friends, etc. ABC provides a thorough understanding of the authority and primary teachings of Scripture. All ages will be equipped to defend the Bible, and become conformed to the image of Christ, as they apply God’s Word in their everyday lives.

Sunday school classes are segregated as follows:

  • 3 year through Pre-K – Pre Primary
  • Kindergarten through 2nd Grade – Primary
  • 3rd Grade through 5th Grade – Middler
  • 6th Grade through 8th Grade – Jr. High
  • 9th Grade through 12th Grade – High School

During the Sunday school hour Nursery is offered to infants through children 2 years of age.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH

Every Sunday morning during the Worship service Children’s Church is offered for children ages 4 – 2nd grade.  At the start of the service children 4 years of age through Kindergarten can participate in the beginning phase of Children’s Church, where they will participate in structured play activities related to the lesson they will be hearing.  Children in Firsts and Second grade are encouraged to join their family for the Worship portion of the service.  An announcement will be made prior to the teaching time of the service for those children to be dismissed to Children’s Church.  They will be escorted back to their room by a Children’s Church helper.  Upon their arrival the children will be given a snack.  It is at this time that a small Bible lesson will be introduced to the children.  A craft, game and / or structured play activity will conclude their time until picked up by their parents.

2 year and 3 year old children can be dropped off in the Nursery; they then will be escorted by their teacher to a   special class designed specifically for them.  They will participate in a fun and interactive, age appropriate Bible lesson, followed by snack, craft and / or game.

Nursery is offered to infants through children 1 year of age.

AWANA

Kids represent the greatest opportunity to make a long-term impact on our world for Christ. Awana establishes welcoming, supportive environments where kids, from every background and cultural setting, learn how a personal relationship with Christ affects their everyday lives. Awana offers a fun, proven approach for early evangelism and discipleship. Scripture-based programs and exciting games attract families, promote Bible literacy and help kids develop lifelong faith in Christ.

Focused on children ages 3 (by September 1st) through sixth grade, Awana takes place on Wednesday nights from September through March.

Cubbies

Cubbies® celebrates the spiritual potential of preschoolers (3- to 5-year olds) by helping them develop respect for God, His Son and His Word.

Preschoolers can hardly wait for their next Cubbies club meeting. Whether it’s the fun puppets, the exciting games or all their Cubbies friends, they simply love it. At Story Time each week, preschoolers learn about God – the greatness of His love and His Word – and about His Son, Jesus Christ, the promised Savior. Non-competitive games build excitement and reinforce Story Time lesson themes.

Cubbies helps you lead your child to God early so your child will respect and trust Him for life.

Sparks

Sparks® ignites the curiosity of early elementary-age kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ.

To many children in kindergarten to second grade, Sparks is the highlight of the week! They love their red vests, the exciting games and spending time with leaders and friends.

Sparks is divided into three years, each with a unique rank: HangGlider®, WingRunner® and SkyStormer™. Each year, Sparks clubbers:

  • explore the biographies of people of the Bible from a new portion of Scripture
  • memorize Bible verses
  • complete handbook activities

The handbooks, combined with Large Group Time lessons from the WHO Do I Need to Know From the Bible series, take your child on a journey through the entire Bible!

Truth & Training

T&T engages third- through sixth-graders by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ’s grace.

Handbooks and large-group lessons deepen a child’s knowledge about God and His Word and teach how to put that knowledge into action in everyday life.

T&T is different from other Awana programs. It is comprised of two clubs with distinct curriculum, uniforms and awards:

ABC combines the T&T clubs together for Large Group Time and Game Time. In any case, the two clubs are designed to help kids stay plugged into T&T as they move into the preteen years and continue growing in their relationship with Christ.

Today, 10- to 12-year-olds, known as tweens, face unique pressures, demands and distractions. These factors can result in a marked increase in discouragement, apathy and disengagement. Christian children are not immune.

Awana has responded by updating T&T to reinforce commitment, identity and community for these kids and to give third- and fourth-graders a new club stage to anticipate. These updates also focus the attention of leaders on the unique challenges and needs of this age group.

The ultimate message to kids of every age group is that nothing is more important than their relationship with Christ and following His way of living in the Scriptures.
